The New Year is a time full of hope and opportunity. It marks a new beginning. But even more important than going to the gym or setting a reading goal, the New Year is a great time to recommit ourselves to the principles and values we believe in. With this spirit of hope, Classical Conversations is happy to announce our renewed commitment to defend education independence this New Year!
In recent decades, many parents have recognized the extreme failings of the public school system. Whether you consider the plummeting grades of students, woke ideology in the curriculum, or gender ideology among the youth, it is clear something has gone very wrong in education. In reaction to this ugly reality, many conservative politicians and grassroots activists have committed themselves to the School Choice movement. This movement aims to help students escape the broken public school systems by providing them with government funds for alternative education options. For years, slogans like “fund students, not systems” and “the money should follow the child” have been echoing through public discourse.
The Lie of School Choice
With a veil of compassion and the promise of a free check, millions of parents around the nation have cheered on the efforts of these legislatures and taken the “free government money” so that their children can flee the public schools. However, despite the promises of School Choice advocates, history teaches us that there is no such thing as a free lunch or a free education.
