Accepted School Choice Claims
The School Choice movement is one of the most effectively marketed political campaigns of our time. The name “School Choice” impersonates principles such as parental autonomy, personal responsibility, and education independence, all of which, are conservative values. Moreover, the movement also makes potent promises that resonate with many Republican politicians and parents.
These School Choice claims like “The money should follow the child,” and “Fund students, not systems” have captured the attention of many Americans and encouraged them to vote in favor of ESA and voucher programs in their state. These pithy slogans have, in large part, won the debate for School Choice because parents and politicians are content to repeat them and trust in the promises they make. For this reason, we must seriously scrutinize each one to determine if they will truly help students and parents.
