What is Happening
A new bill, NJ S1796, has been introduced in the New Jersey Senate. At first glance, it might seem simple: It requires homeschool families to notify their local district each year and compels districts to report and publish the number of homeschoolers. But we know that even small steps toward regulation can lay the groundwork for increased government oversight.
This is a moment to stand together—not in fear, but in faith and resolve.
Why We Care
At Classical Conversations, we believe education is a sacred endeavor. Education belongs first and foremost to parents, not the state. That’s why we’ve launched the Education Independence Network, a movement committed to ensuring that home education remains free, privately funded, and directed by families—and not the state.
Why This Matters
- Education is a family’s responsibility, not a government program.
- Transparency laws today trespass on parental autonomy and can become regulatory controls tomorrow.
- Every small concession can be used to justify future intrusion.
How to Respond
- Attend the Hearing if you’re able. Your presence speaks volumes. The Senate Education Committee will review this bill on:
- Date: Thursday, June 5
- Time: 11:00 AM
- Location: Trenton, NJ
- Share the Message: Help other families understand what’s at stake and why education independence must be preserved.
- Contact Your Legislators: A quick call or a simple, respectful note from a constituent can make a big difference. You can find your legislators’ contact information here: Find Your NJ Legislator.
